This paper has three parts. The first briefly summarizes the professional obligations of dentists and their auxiliaries with respect to patients (or would be patients) with HIV. The second part examines what seem the chief excuses or justifications given for dentists not fulfilling those obligations. The third part examines what seem to be the chief arguments for "changing" those professional obligations so that dentists may refuse to treat patients with HIV.
